Device will not connect
If a device sits at Connecting and never reaches Connected, it is almost always network configuration. Settings that can be ignored on a local network have to be set for a device to reach the internet.
Check these first
Both of these are set on the device itself, in whichever configuration application its manufacturer provides.
- Default gateway
The IP address of the device that gives this one its route to the internet — usually the router. Without it, the device has no way out of the local subnet.
- DNS servers
A primary and a secondary DNS server address, so the device can resolve the Cloud service address. Some networks provide their own; public DNS servers also work.
Network blocks
The most common reason for a device not being able to connect is a network stopping it from reaching the internet at all, especially on larger managed networks. See Network requirements for the addresses and the port a device needs, and for what to ask a network administrator to allow.
